I began my journey with Houston Montessori Center 6 years ago and the effects of my training still impact my life today.  At the time when I began training, I had been in education for a decade, had both an undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in education, and taken countless professional development courses, and yet had never been to a training as holistic and comprehensive as HMC’s secondary cohort.

Just as Montessori is meant to address the needs of the whole child, I believe that this program is designed to meet the needs of the whole educator.  In addition to learning about Montessori philosophy and methodology as well as the best way to understand my student’s plane of development and their psychological, physiological, social-emotional, and academic needs, I learned a lot about myself as a person and as an educator.

Dr. Montessori herself believed that the teacher needed to go on their own personal development journey in order to prepare for the work they would do with their students, and through this program HMC sets up the environment that empowers the teachers to develop personally as well as professionally.

HMC’s program also takes best practices in the field to create a wholesome and rigorous curriculum and their knowledgeable staff will assist you in adapting that curriculum to the setting in which you teach. The program provided opportunity for rich dialogue on a variety of topics in our field as well as the global world and through the community that they set up at HMC, I created lifelong bonds with members of my cohort.

I literally could go on and on about this program, but at the end of the day if you are looking for a transformative experience personally and professionally, Houston Montessori Center’s secondary training is the right fit for you.
