Montessori Teacher Courses for Infant & Toddler: Birth to 36 months

Houston Montessori Center's Infant and Toddler program was begun in 1992 by Dr. Betsy Coe and has served adult learners ever since. Lynne Aiken is the Level Coordinator, an instructor, and a field consultant.  The Infant and Toddler faculty all have years of experience in the Montessori classroom with infants or toddlers and as teacher educators.  

The instruction at the HMC adult Infant and Toddler program is a deep dive into the study of human development and the study of the Montessori philosophy. As an adult learner, you will begin to weave your knowledge of child development and Montessori philosophy with educational design and pedagogy as applied to infants and toddlers.  The year of training challenges your time management skills, and your creativity in preparing materials for your environment, and develops organizational strategies for individual work and small group work for HMC that will be helpful as you build with your teaching team at your Practicum site.

Our Infant and Toddler adult learners come from all over the USA, mostly from the southwestern states.  When you enter the Infant and Toddler program, you become part of a cohort of people with whom you will be working for the duration of the program. There also are intentional experiences to bridge connections with cohort groups before and after yours, expanding your network further. These networks create support systems for you as a teacher, providing valuable interactions and ongoing opportunities for collaboration and encouragement among peers that last far beyond your time in the program. Should you ever seek a refresher after you receive your credential, you are always welcome to return to HMC free of charge.

The Infant and Toddler program at HMC remains rich and dynamic: dynamic because it is constantly being refined based on current research, rich because over the years HMC has created an effective curriculum that is shared with each new cohort, enabling adult learners to build upon vetted practices to create their environments to best serve the needs of their families.
