Nothing has prepared me more for teaching than the Houston Montessori Secondary program. Montessori is about seeing students for who they are - not who you think they are or who you think they should be.

By going through the secondary teaching program as a student, you get to see every assignment, every freedom, and every responsibility through the eyes of the student. I was able to feel the deep, immersive quality of an extended work block, the guileless draw to socialize during group work, the temptation to make others laugh at the wrong times and the deep connection to personal reflection.

My ability to look at my middle schoolers with a compassionate eye stems from my experience at the School of the Woods. It is an experience that is impossible to describe because it’s so visceral - you have to be there.
